Abstract
This chapter presents a stylized overview of the dynamics of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) -Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. The emphasis of this work is on comparative analysis rather than delving into the details of national experiences. The chapter is organized into two main thematic areas. First, based on information available from official sources, the main characteristics of smaller firms in the subregion are reviewed. Second, it describes the support policies for MSMEs implemented both at the national level and at the regional level.
