Abstract
The ETEA Foundation’s Central American Studies Collection has dedicated its fourth issue to the Dialogue Forums on Regional Integration, a formal space for debate promoted by the General Secretariat of SICA, within the framework of the SICA Training Program, with the collaboration of the Spain-SICA Fund and the academic support of the ETEA Foundation.
The four Dialogue Forums, held between 2011 and 2012, have allowed Central American integration experts from throughout the region, as well as international experts, to address the analysis of the Central American integration model from different perspectives and discuss issues of utmost importance such as the priority agenda and challenges, planning instruments and action plan, the functioning of its institutions, the sectoral scope, etc.
The book gathers important contributions to the debate, both from voices of proven prestige in the field of regional integration and from academics with a certain research trajectory in this field. All of them offer us here, as they did in the Forums, their perception of the process and their specific knowledge, thus offering us the possibility of obtaining a general approximation of the whole that allows us to better understand a reality as complex and dynamic, singular and contradictory, vulnerable but attractive and enthusiastic at the same time, as is the reality of Central American integration.
